GRIT 2024 Fundraiser!
Anchorage GRIT is an after school bike mentorship program offered to girls, trans, and non-binary students at Begich Middle School. Participation in GRIT is entirely free and provides each student with all that they need to be successful in learning to explore and interact with their community on bikes.
The program provides each student with a bicycle, a helmet, a bike lock and other gear necessities. Over six weeks of lessons and field trips in the spring, students gain independence and confidence through movement, transportation and adventure on a bike. As a culminating trip at the end of the season, GRIT students and volunteer adult mentors ride 65 miles from their school in Anchorage to campout at a backcountry cabin on Eklutna Lake. To celebrate and to encourage each student to continue using their bikes to expand their horizons, students earn their bikes and gear to keep as their own at the end of the campout trip.
Anchorage GRIT programming is planned, coordinated, and led by volunteer mentors each season and is funded entirely by donations from the community. Bike Anchorage proudly supports Anchorage GRIT by managing program funds and providing insurance so that GRIT organizers can focus on necessary gear and experiences that benefit students directly.
Thank you for supporting our 2024 season!
