WHAT CAN I BRING INTO THE EVENT?
Bring your friends, your Big Fat Ride Bib, and your helmet.
WHAT IS A FAT BIKE?
Fat bikes are an Alaskan tradition. Anchorage is the birthplace of the fat bike - a specially designed bike with wide (3.5in or greater) tires that help the rider float on top of the snow. The Big Fat Ride is a great place to try them out!
WHERE CAN I GET A FAT BIKE?
Anchorage is home to some terrific bike shops. You can rent a fat bike at any one of them!
WHAT ARE MY TRANSPORTATION/PARKING OPTIONS FOR GETTING TO AND FROM THE EVENT?
We recommend parking south of 5th Avenue. Even better, get a warm up in and ride to the staging area located on E Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. Also remember Anchorage People Mover buses can carry 2 Fat Bikes and the Central Station is just south of the race start!
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
We love our furry friends, but due to the volume of cyclists on the course, it's not a safe place for dogs. Please leave them at home.
IS THERE ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED?
Helmets are a must! We can't let you ride without one. Every rider must display their Big Fat Ride bib on their bike to enter the course.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY RAISED FROM TICKET SALES GO?
All ticket sales go to cover the expenses associated with putting on the ride, things like blocking the road and printing the bibs. Anything left goes to support Bike Anchorage, your local bike advocacy, education, and encouragement nonprofit!
