Thank you for volunteering to host a treat station at Bike to Work Day!
When are treat stations open on Bike to Work Day?
Treat stations are hosted from 7:00-9:00 A.M. and/or 4:00-6:00 P.M. Most treat stations are open for both the morning and afternoon times, but you can choose one or the other if that's what works for your organization!
Do we need to register our station?
Yes! Click here to sign up. Once you've registered, we'll add your treat station to our official Bike to Work Day treat station map.
Where should I choose to locate my treat station?
This event is inclusive of Anchorage, Eagle River and Girdwood. Public areas such as parks or along sidewalks (be careful not to obstruct the sidewalk!) are popular choices. If possible, we encourage treat stations to set up at least a quarter mile distance, or about a five-minute walk, from other treat stations.
How many people should I plan on visiting my treat station?
This is a tricky question to answer because it depends on how busy the area is, and how close you are to other treat stations. At minimum, we recommend planning on 50 visitors per two-hour shift; if your station is on a main multi-use trail or other popular area, plan for at least 100.
What should we provide at our station?
We encourage you to get creative with your treat station offerings! This could include snacks, drinks, promotional products from your business, coupons and more. Additionally, we will provide a limited number of Bike to Work Day branded stickers and t-shirts for treat stations to give away.
Do we need a permit to serve food?
This depends on what kind of food you're planning to offer at your treat station; most stations won't need a permit. Here are the types of treats that do not require a permit:
- Commercially packaged cut fruit or vegetables
- Individually packaged snacks such as granola bars
- Black coffee or tea with single-serving creamer and sweetener
- Baked goods individually wrapped or served with tongs
If you'd like to serve food at your treat station that requires more intensive cooking or preparation, or must be held at hot or cold temperatures, you may need a permit from the Anchorage Health Department. All permit fees are waived; you'll just need to run your plans by one of the city's health professionals to verify food safety basics.
You can download the permit application here. Applications must be submitted to the Anchorage Health Department no later than May 9, 2025.
If you're not sure whether your station needs a permit, reach out to the Anchorage Health Department at 907-343-4200.
How do we promote our station?
Bike Anchorage can provide posters to help your business promote Bike to Work Day. We encourage you to promote your Bike to Work Day station on social media, email, word of mouth, and other communications channels you normally use.
Can we partner with other businesses or organizations?
Yes! Many organizations collaborate to host one big party treat station. If you do so, please just fill out one treat station registration form with everyone's information on it. Thank you!
What if it rains?
A little rain never stopped Anchorage bicyclists! Even in years when Bike to Work Day is rainy or gray, thousands of people still participate. We recommend bringing a tent or canopy for your treat station, to make it more comfortable in any weather conditions.
Are we responsible for tracking visitors?
We have a team of volunteer bike counters stationed around the city keeping track of participation numbers, so you don't have to worry about counting visitors to your treat station!
Who do we contact if we have questions or problems on the day of?
Contact Alexa Dobson, Executive Director of Bike Anchorage at 907-351-7593 or [email protected].
Can we post photos from the event?
Please do! Be sure to tag us @bikeanchorage in your posts. We also really appreciate photos shared directly with us - just email to [email protected].
