Advocacy Opportunities

The upcoming AMATS Technical Advisory Committee meeting is full of important topics that will shape the future of biking and walking in Anchorage, with opportunities for public testimony:

Fish Creek Trail Project

The Fish Creek Trail extension is in trouble. Some nearby landowners are opposing the project and using their influence to try and stop it from being built, against the will of Anchorage residents who voted in 2021 to fund the trail. It's not right that a wealthy few can stand in the way of a safer, connected trail system for our whole community. We need supporters like you to call in and make it clear that this trail matters and should move forward.

Protected Bike Lane Study

The results of the past two years' Protected Bike Lane pilot study, including Pine Street and downtown, will be presented at this meeting. It’s a great chance to learn more about how protected bike lanes performed in Anchorage and what this could mean for future projects, and you can speak up to tell your story about the protected bike lane.

Fireweed Lane Rehabilitation Project

The Fireweed Lane project will also be reviewed, including feedback from the open house held in October. Fireweed has the potential to become a vibrant, people-friendly destination with safe, accessible bike and pedestrian infrastructure—but only if we make our voices heard. Review the Friends of Fireweed info sheet here for a refresher on design concepts.
