Become a Certified Bike Safety Instructor!

Are you passionate about biking, safety, and making your community a better place to ride? We’re looking for motivated individuals in Anchorage, Chugiak/Eagle River, Girdwood, and the Mat-Su Valley to become League Certified Instructors (LCIs) through a special training opportunity funded by the Alaska Highway Safety Office.

LCIs are nationally certified by the League of American Bicyclists to teach Smart Cycling classes. These are practical, on-bike safety courses that help riders of all ages and experience levels build confidence and ride more safely on our streets and trails.

What’s in it for you:

• Free training: We cover the cost of your LCI seminar and prerequisite course.

• $250 stipend: To help offset your time, travel, and prep expenses.

• Make an impact: Use your skills to teach two bike safety courses in your community.

How it works:

1. Take Smart Cycling
   This is a prerequisite for the LCI seminar. If you haven’t already completed it, we’ll offer a free Smart Cycling course this summer to get you ready.

2. Attend the LCI Seminar
   The final training, a hands-on, intensive seminar, will take place in August 2025 (exact date TBD). After successfully completing the course, you’ll be a nationally certified instructor.

3. Teach in your community
   In return, we ask that you commit to teaching at least two Smart Cycling classes in your area. We’ll help you get started with resources, guidance, and ongoing support.
